RESUME
Au tournant des XIX et XXe siècles, le naturisme libertaire, mouvement de retour à la nature qui critique le capitalisme, l’industrialisation et l’urbanisation, émerge en Europe occidentale. Ce mouvement est étudié à partir des expériences politiques de Georges Butaud (1868-1926) et Sophie Zaïkowska (1874-1939), un couple d’anarchistes végétaliens actif en France entre les années 1890 et 1920. Avec la mise en application très concrète du retour à la nature, à travers la création de colonies libertaires ou la pratique du végétarisme du végétalisme, Butaud et Zaïkowska confrontent leur idéal politique à une quotidienneté difficile qui modifie leur conception du changement social. Ils considèrent ainsi que les individus doivent se réformer selon des principes végétaliens (modification du régime alimentaire, réduction des besoins, refus du travail salarié) pour qu’une société communiste émancipée advienne.

At the turn of the 20th century libertarian naturism, a back-to-nature movement critic of capitalism, industrialisation and urbanisation, emerged in Western Europe. This article examines this movement through the political experiences of Georges Butaud (1868-1926) and Sophie Zaïkowska (1874-1939), a pair of vegan anarchists active in France between the 1890s and 1920s. By putting their return to nature into practice, through the creation of libertarian colonies and the practice of vegetarianism and veganism, Butaud and Zaïkowska confronted their political ideal with a difficult everyday life that modified their conception of social change. They considered that individuals had to reform themselves according to vegan principles (changing their diet, reducing their needs, refusing of wage-earning employment) for an emancipated communist society to emerge.
