Résumé

Apparu au sein du parti socialiste, le syndicalisme révolutionnaire italien, avec à sa tête des intellectuels et des militants itinérants, prôna, contre le gouvernement et le parlementarisme socialiste, l’autonomie ouvrière qu’il tenta de réaliser en quittant le parti, en 1907, en se séparant de ses intellectuels et en créant sa propre base syndicale. En 1912-1913, il parvint à concurrencer la CGT réformiste et majoritaire. Divisé sur l’attitude face à la Grande Guerre, une aile constitua un syndicalisme réceptif à l’idée de patrie, alors que l’autre resta fidèle à la lutte de classe sans condition. Ses bastions furent aussi bien situés dans les campagnes (Émilie, Pouilles) que dans les centres industriels du Nord.

Revolutionary syndicalism in Italy (1904-1925). Men and struggles
Born from within the socialist party, Italian revolutionary syndicalism, with at its head various rootless intellectuals and activists, advanced an argument for working class autonomy against governmental liberalism and parliamentary socialism : this they attempted to do by leaving the party in 1907, in separating themselves from its intellectuals and through the creation of their own trade union base. Divided in their response to the First World War, after the war one strand formed a syndicalism receptive to the idea of the homeland, whilst another remained faithful to unconditional class struggle. Its bastions were situated in the countryside (Emilia, Puglia) rather than the industrial centres of the north.
